Wiring Instructions
A qualified electrician needs to know the following before wiring:
1. The amperage rating of the electrical box should be adequate. Refer to the Technical Specifications
(page 4) for this information.
2. The supply line should have the same electrical characteristics (voltage, cycle, phase) as the motor.
Refer to the motor nameplate, on the side of motor, for this information.
NOTE: The wiring used must be rated for the motor nameplate voltage. Refer to local codes for
recommended wire sizes, correct wire size, and maximum wire run; undersize wire causes high-amp draw
and overheating to the motor.
Grounding
⚠
WARNING
•
This machine must be grounded while in use to protect the operator from electrical shock. This
compressor is equipped with an electrical cord that has an equipment grounding conductor and a
grounding plug. The plug MUST be plugged into a matching receptacle that is properly installed and
grounded in accordance with ALL local codes and ordinances.
•
DO NOT MODIFY THE PROVIDED PLUG. If it will not fit the receptacle, have the proper receptacle
installed by a qualified electrician.
•
CHECK with a qualified electrician or service person if you do not completely understand the
grounding instructions, or if you are not sure the tool is properly grounded.
•
Risk of electrical shock.
In the event of a short circuit, grounding reduces the risk of shock by
providing and escape wire for the electric current. This air compressor must be properly grounded.
•
Do not modify the plug provided. If it does not fit the available outlet, a correct outlet should be
installed by a qualified electrician.
•
Repairs to the cord set or plug MUST be made by a qualified electrician.
Grounding Instructions
The portable air compressor is equipped with a cord having a grounding wire with an appropriate
grounding plug.
1.
The cord set and plug with this unit contains a grounding pin. This
plug MUST be used with a grounded outlet.
IMPORTANT: The outlet being used must be installed and
grounded in accordance with all local codes and ordinances.
2.
Ensure the outlet being used has the same configuration as the
grounded plug. DO NOT USE AN ADAPTER.
3.
Inspect the plug and cord before each use. Do not use if there are
signs of damage.
4.
If these grounding instructions are not completely understood, or if
in doubt as to whether the compressor is properly grounded, have the installation checked by a
qualified electrician.
