5.1: Configuring the Bus Devices
5.1.1.2
Takeover Mode
For most systems, the takeover mode (Call Up or Takeover) must be configured for
some of the bus devices, i..e. the takeover mode cannot be “none” for all devices.
When configuring a steering position, the highest priority device (the „priority unit“)
must be determined. This device must be configured for either Call Up or Takeo-
ver. Only the priority unit will have a functional takeover key.
The takeover method of all other bus devices at that position must be set to
„none“. The takeover keys at these devices must be masked with the plastic in-
serts provided.
The following list shows the order of priority for applicable BIUs and the CDU,
highest to lowest:
1)
Steering Position Selector (SPS)
2)
Steering Mode Selector (SMS)
3)
Dual Rudder Sync Selector (DRS)
4)
Follow Up MiniWheel (FMW) and Control & Display Unit (CDU)
The SPS is the highest priority device and its takeover mode is “locked” as Call Up
and cannot be altered in the setup. When a position does not include an SPS, an-
other device becomes the priority unit and the installer must deliberately configure
the takeover mode as Call Up or Takeover, depending on customer requirements.
Note
The priority control unit at the Main steering position must be configured for takeo-
ver mode Call Up in order to offer control to remote positions.
All remote steering positions must be configured for the same takeover mode.
Warning
Correct configuration of the steering position and takeover mode at all bus
devices is essential. If one or more devices are configured with an incorrect
position or takeover mode, the system will not be fully functional.
Verify that all available steering modes are functional and that control can be
transferred between all available locations at the conclusion of the system
configuration.
