•
To search for waypoints by distance or bearing, press the
CURSOR PAD
left or right to highlight either of these
columns, then use the
KEYPAD
to enter the distance or
bearing.
The waypoint that you find during your search will appear in
the list at about the third line from the top, which lets you
easily view waypoints that are above and below the found
waypoint.
Creating a new waypoint
You can create and store up to 2000 waypoints. There are
several ways to create and store a new waypoint:
•
graphically—on the
CHART
screen—by moving the cursor
to any position and storing it
•
instantly—by pressing the
SAVE
key (at any screen) to
save the vessel’s present position as a waypoint
•
numerically—by entering the coordinates at the
WAYPOINTS
screen
You can also save waypoints that are specifically associated
with the echo sounder function; for details, refer to the
Northstar 490 Operations Manual
(GM490).
NOTE:
Pressing the
MOB
key will also save a waypoint; however, this
option is reserved for situations that require an instantaneous press
of the
MOB
key to immediately return your vessel to the precise
position where you pressed the
MOB
key. For details, see “MOB
key” starting on page 3-28.
Creating a new
waypoint
graphically
You can create a new waypoint right on the
CHART
screen. To
store the cursor location as a waypoint:
1. On the
CHART
screen, press the
CURSOR PAD
to move
the cursor to the desired location (to establish a precise
position for this new waypoint, press the
IN
or
OUT
keys
to zoom the chart view in or out).
The lat/lon coordinates are shown on the
CURSOR INFO
BAR
.
