The SOMNIUM is delivered configured in its basic setting. You will recognise this by
the red stitching on the black straps.
Please note: regardless of how you adjust the harness – it is essential that the adjust-
ments are symmetric. Asymmetric adjustments can lead to turns and therefore unin-
tended negative consequences in extreme flight situations.
Please test your adjustments in calm flying conditions. While in the air, make note of
the changes you wish to make. After the flight you can then make further adjustments
to change the harness settings.
Closing the buckles
Before each take off, check that the buckles
are securely fastened. You will know if they
are completely closed when you hear the
distinctive ‘click’ sound. Additionally, the red
button must pop up and protrude to keep
the flat plate secured.
Taking off without connecting the buckles
can be fatal.
The leg loops and chest strap form one unit.
When closing the flat plates, make sure they
are not upside down.

Passive safety
The NOVA SOMNIUM is fitted with two protectors. Together they form the Hybrid Pro-
tector.
The NOVA Hybrid Protector combines the advantages of foam and airbag. Little
weight, small packing volume and a high degree of passive safety. Harnesses with hy-
brid protection are generally designed so that foam is fitted under the seat, giving the
pilot protection even before take off.
Once in the air, this protection is augmented with a thick cushion of air around the
pilot’s back. The most effective aerodynamic shape was an important consideration
in the design of the airbag. Hybrid protection is particularly suitable for all-round and
cross-country harnesses, which should be light and safe.
Adjustments: Basics
Before the first flight, the harness should be adjusted on the ground. Hang the harness
on a spreader bar, sit in it and close the buckles. It is even more helpful if you wear your
usual flying clothes - a thick jacket can have a marked influence on the seating position.
