When the appropriate equipment is selected, complete the following steps to set up and begin
using the SMART2.
Figure 3: SMART2 Installation
1. Mount the SMART2 receiver. Refer to
Mounting and Orientating the SMART2
for mounting details.
2. Connect the NovAtel interface cable, or custom wiring harness, to the COM and Power port
on the back of the SMART2 (J1). Refer to
on page 12 for details
of the connector. Refer to
SMART Antennas Interface Cable (Optional Accessory)
for cable details.
3. Connect other GNSS system components using the output lines.
4. Connect the SMART2 to other GNSS system components, such as a computer or data ter-
minal, using the communication ports.

5. Connect the power leads on the interface cable to the power supply.
Ensure a 5 A slow blow fuse is incorporated in the power wiring. Refer to
Interface Cable (Optional Accessory)
on page 73 and
SMART Antenna Additional Equipment
on page 19 for fuse recommendations.
See
on page 18 and
below for details.
Refer to
on page 12 for details of SMART2 LED states.
2.1 Power Supply Requirements for SMART Antennas
SMART Antennas require a power supply that provides:
l
a voltage in the range of +7 to +30 VDC, current consumption 500 mA
l
at least 15 W of power (SMART2 typical use: 2.5 W)
See
Table 16: SMART2 Power Requirements
on page 70 for more power supply specifications.
