General notes for your safety
– Please observe all notes in these in-
structions. This will ensure the safe in-
stallation and optimal functioning of your
doors. Failure to observe them may lead
to material damage or injury.
– The sequence of installation steps shown
in these instructions must be followed.
– Always work using suitable safety equip-
ment.
– Before installation a generous hazard
zone should be sealed off and secured so
that persons not directly commissioned
to carry out the installation do not enter
the hazard zone.
– Door panels and frame components
must be secured against accidental
damage.
– All work must be carried out in accord-
ance with the relevant workplace safety
laws and regulations.
– All equipment used (e.g. lifting devices)
must be complete, tested and configured
in a manner appropriate to the load to be
lifted. Only use tools in perfect working
condition.
– Welding work may only be carried out
where the floor and immediate environ-
ment is suitable for such work and where
it gives rise to no fire hazard. Take all
steps necessary to prevent fire, ignition,
explosion and smoke accumulation dur-
ing welding, burning and grinding work.
– If any accessory parts should have docu-
mentation, then such documents will
have precedence over these instructions.
– Use only authorised original parts for
this product.
– Do not modify the original state of any
parts.
– Please keep these assembly, operating
and maintenance instructions as long as
you use the product!
– Installations at heights exceeding 2 me-
tres must be carried out according to the
accident prevention regulations of the
relevant professional associations, with
the aid of suitable scaffolding or using
an elevated platform.
Information on the various properties of
different doors
Please note that the door will have its own
properties or a combination of properties
in relation to fire and smoke protection,
sound insulation or protection against
break-in, and that a functioning door may
not possess any fire and/or smoke protec-
tion properties.
Fire and smoke protection doors
– You can see the relevant authorisation at
http://www.novoferm.com
– The information on each authorisations
are minimum requirements for installa-
tion in Germany. For installation in other
countries, the relevant national authori-
sations shall apply, which must be based
at minimum on the material properties
required for the applicable DIN standards
must
– DIN 18093 (installation of fire doors) and
DIN 18100 (wall openings for doors) and
the local national regulations must be
observed.
– The manufacturer may in individual
cases issue a declaration of compliance
in accordance with Sections 22 and 23 of
the German Model Building Regulation.
– The operator is responsible for the door
remaining in good working order.
The following fire protections barriers
must always be equipped with door closing
mechanisms:
– Doors with fire protection glazing
– Doors for installation in porous concrete
– Doors for installation in walls conforming
to DIN or AbP (German general building
inspection test certificate); Exception
Door leaf dims. < 1000 x 1000 mm)
– Smoke protection doors
– Doors with leaf weight > 80 kg
– Double-leaf fire protection barriers
Other regulations may apply outside the
Federal Republic of Germany. However, we
recommend conforming at minimum to the
German regulations.
– Use metal fittings, locks, closing mecha-
nisms and electrical components only if
they are included in the door's authorisa-
tion or if they have been approved by the
manufacturer.
– Install three-sided rebated doors with no
lower stop only in grooves at the lowest
level (i.e. floor level).
– Dry (plasterboard) walls and wall thick-
nesses: see table on page 20 below.
– Masonry, concrete, porous concrete walls
and wall thicknesses: see table on page
20 below.
– Where frame is backfilled with cement-
based mineral mortar, closed and corner
frame (with or without counterframe)
should be braced in such a way that the
frames are not deformed by the pressure
of the mortar during backfilling.
– Place glazing of fire protection doors
without UV protection out of any direct
sunshine.
Smoke protection
– Use a door sill variant suitable for smoke
protection.
– If the frame is not backfilled with mortar,
then please seal the frame fastening to
the neighbouring parts on at least one
side of the door without gaps using a
permanently elastic sealant.
– Use a cylinder lock.
Sound-proofing
– The overall sound damping effect
depends on the neighbouring parts. The
specific sound damping effect of wall and
door must be checked individually, as it
cannot be derived solely from the sound
reduction index R
W
or R of the door.
– To achieve the given sound reduction
values, the maximum floor clearance
may not be more than 8 mm.
– Make sure that seals are completely
flush.
– The floor under the door leaf must be
level in order to guarantee a complete
seal.
– Create a separation in the floor screed
in the sill area.
– Use a cylinder lock
– The best possible sound insulation
values can be achieved only by backfilling
the frame using mortar.
Burglar resistant doors
– The door provides the burglar resistant
properties only if the door lock bolt is
fully engaged and the key has been
removed.
– Secure the hinge bolts using screws.
– The fixation points for the frame given
in the installation instructions must be
backfilled fully and firmly.
– Frames fitted in solid walls must be
backfilled using mortar.
– Fitting the door handle: must be carried
out according to the installation instruc-
tions of the manufacturer.
– The maximum allowed floor clearance in
order to ensure correct bolting at bottom
in the case of double-leaf doors must not
exceed 8 mm.
