AQUILA OPERATING MANUAL
NW Explorations
bottom. Dragging can be reduced by two persons
if one is on each side. Don’t “Ram” the beach; you
can bump up to the beach gently and step ashore
over the bow, pulling the dinghy a little more ashore
as each person off-loads. Don’t forget to raise the
outboard!
4E3: Outboard Motor
The outboard motor for the dinghy is a four-stroke
Honda 9.9 hp outboard. It uses plain fuel, oil should
not be mixed with the gasoline.
To check the oil, remove the cover by operating the
latch at the back of the motor. The dipstick (black
and hard to see) is on the starboard side, while the
fill is aft. Use the oil stowed in the lazarette.
Be sure to replace and latch the cover after the
checks!
The motor has a manual choke.
Outboard Operation:
1. Be sure engine is lowered.
2. Insert emergency kill switch (red clip) on throttle handle.
3.
Pump fuel line bulb until it resists your squeeze.
4. With engine in neutral, twist grip to the start position.
5. Press the start button (electric start) or pull starter cord.
6. Twist the handgrip back to idle before shifting gears.

removed. The yellow cap is the oil fill point; the arrow
points to the nearly hidden dipstick!
