degrees) it’s probably best to just leave the coolant alone! To tell if coolant is needed, remove the cap and stick
your index finger in; if you can feel coolant with it, there is enough. If there isn’t, check to determine if there is
any sign of a coolant leak under the engine, and if there is, do not run the engine; if no leak, add coolant from
the jug of pre-mixed antifreeze/corrosion inhibitor/water supplied on the boat.
To add coolant, remove the cap on the coolant tank and add coolant from the premixed, 50% coolant-to-water
supply on the boat. With the engine “cold”, add only to a level about 2” from the cap, no more: The coolant
expands when the engine gets warm!
Check the Room
Whenever you’re in the engine room, ask yourself, “Does everything look right?”. Look at the pads under the
engine and transmission: while some drips are normal, there shouldn’t ever be substantial accumulations of
any fluids!
Check the Sea Strainers
Once a week or immediately if either main engine or the generator) runs “hot”. The main engine strainers are
under the grid beneath the ladder at the most-forward end of the engine room. The genset strainer is at the
forward side of the generator cabinet just port of the bilge centerline; To check a strainer, see pages 4.23 &
4.39.
4J3: Engine
Controls
Aquila is fitted with push-pull cable controls for the gears and
throttles. There are main engine controls at both
helms. These controls are simple, smooth and reliable.
