Changing e-mail security options
ActiveSync® lets you set up S/MIME e-mail encryption and signing. You will have to obtain a valid certificate
for signing or encrypting e-mail before you can do so successfully.
1. From the phone’s home screen, press Start > All Programs > ActiveSync > [OK].
2. Press the Menu > Options > [OK].
3. Scroll to e-mail > Settings.
4. Press Menu > Advanced > [OK]. Do one or both of the following:
• Select Sign messages – this means a recipient can be certain that the email they have received was sent
by you, and has not been altered in any way.
• Select Encrypt messages. This will encrypt all outgoing e-mails so as to stop the contents from being
viewed by anyone other then your intended recipient.
Press Menu > Choose Certificate to select a certificate for signing or encrypting outgoing e-mails. You can
select these certificates on an ad hoc basis if you do not want to sign or encrypt all outgoing e-mails.
NOTE: The facility to synchronise e-mail using S/MIME encryption or signing is available only with Exchange
Server 2003 Service Pack 2, or later.
Excluding an e-mail address from Reply All
You can instruct ActiveSync® to ignore a specified e-mail address when you reply to all senders from
your phone. If you specify your own primary e-mail address, this can ensure you don’t keep receiving
your own e-mails.
1. From the phone home screen, press Start > All Programs > ActiveSync > [OK].
2. Press Menu > Options.
3. Select e-mail > Settings.
4. Press Menu > Advanced > [OK].
5. Enter the e-mail address you want to exclude when replying to all senders from your
primary e-mail address.
