Paper input handling
Introduction
The printer sends a list of the available media input trays to the host. The list is a list of logical
input trays. The list has entries for each logical input tray and for the mandatory Media Source ID.
Based on the media information, the host selects a logical input tray using the Media Source ID.
In tray-to-tray mode the logical input trays are mapped to physical trays via the tray-to-tray
mapping table. This table is available in the Settings Editor. It can be more convenient to use the
tray-to-media mode and the corresponding tray-to-media mapping table, which decouples the
IPDS setup from the physical tray contents.
NOTE
The input tray numbers in the IPDS data stream start at 0, but the input tray numbers in the host
start at 1. Therefore, the input tray numbers in the host are decremented by one before they are
sent to the printer.
NOTE
The tray-to-tray mapping table and the tray-to-media mapping table can be configured in the
Settings Editor.
Tray-to-tray mode
A tray is selected by the host. The tray must contain the correct media for the job, before the job
is started.
In the Settings Editor, the tray-to-tray mapping table is available. The table maps a Media Source
ID from the IPDS data stream to a physical tray.
The default tray-to-tray mapping table
The IPDS tray number is mapped to the default logical tray number according to the tray-to-tray
mapping table:
Media Source ID (decimal)
Host
Media Source ID (hex)
