Safety Interlock System
Introduction
The Océ Arizona 6100 Series printers are equipped with a Category 3, Performance Level 'd'
Interlock system to protect the Operator and any other personnel when working with the
machine. The printer is equipped with an Emergency-Stop button located at the Operator Podium
and a Long Sense Edge on either side end of the Gantry. The Manual Maintenance Access Door is
integrated as part of the interlock system. A green beacon located on the Carriage indicates the
Active/Disabled status of the interlock system and the printer.
Components of the Interlock System
There are eight elements to the Interlock System:
Emergency Stop Actuator
Emergency Stop Strip (front and rear)
Manual Maintenance Access Door
Carriage Guards (Left and Right)
UV Lamps (Home and Away)
Emergency Stop Actuator:
The Emergency Stop Actuator is located at the User Podium. Activating the Emergency-Stop
button stops all printer motion and turns off the UV curing system.
On either side of the Gantry an Emergency Stop Strip is installed. Pressing the Long Sense Edge
at any location along its length will trip the Interlock System in the same manner as the
Emergency Stop.
To re-activate the printer after you press an Emergency Stop actuator, turn it counter-clockwise.
Upon release of the actuator, no motion can be initiated without acknowledgment by the
Operator from the user interface at the Podium.
The Emergency Stop Strip will act as described above, in the same manner as the Emergency
Stop Actuator. After an Emergency Stop Strip actuation, no motion can be initiated without
acknowledgment of the Operator from the user interface at the Operator Podium.
Maintenance Station Interlock Function:
The Manual Maintenance Access Door is located at one end of the printer and allows access to
the bottom of the carriage to perform Manual Printhead Maintenance and to swab printheads.
Carriage and Gantry motion motors are disabled and UV lamps are turned off (if they were On),
when the door is open.
Beacon Light Status
A green beacon light, located on the carriage, indicates to the Operator the Active/Disabled status
of the interlock system and the printer.
Beacon off/Disabled:
indicates the printer can be approached without caution. The machine
cannot initiate movement since the interlock Safety System has disabled all motion and
hazardous hardware.
Beacon on/Enabled:
indicates the printer is powered up and ready to initiate motion. This tells an
operator to approach the machine with caution, because it can initiate motion at any moment.
