6.4.1 Additional configuration settings
Some features not related to print queues might be configured via the file lpd.ini (which is
created if it doesn't exist). It is a plain text file and may contain any of the following param-
eters:
Trace [n] where n=-1, 0 (default), 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 specifies the trace level.
0 means no tracing at all, towards 5 verbosity increases.
Trace output is written to the file "Trace" in the \\lpd directory.
Logging of errors to the Windows Event Log may be suppressed by setting the trace level
to -1, though this is strongly discouraged.
Capture [n] where n=0 (default), 1, 2, 3, ... causes the n most recent cf- and df-files to be
retained as "cf_capture_0" "cf_capture_1", ... and as "cf_capture_0", "cf_capture_1", ..., re-
spectively.
Note that, due to the multithreading, there is in general no one-to-one correspondence of
the "cf_capture_x" and "df_capture_x" files.
However, the trace file allows finding the corresponding file names.
Threads [n] where n=1, 2, ..., 64 specifies the maximum number of simultaneous connec-
tions. The default is 16.
Port [n] where n=1, 2, ..., 1023 specifies the port ELPS is listening on for incoming print jobs.
Changing the default (515 as specified in RFC 1179) is rarely useful.
Note that lpd.ini is read only once during start-up. For changes to take effect ELPS must be
stopped and restarted via "Control Panel", "Services".
6.4.2 Lpr on Windows platforms
On Windows platforms, following parameters are supported, and PRISMAspool will recog-
nize (use) -S, -P, and -C options. The printer name should be defined in the printcap file (if
job is to be sent via ELPS) or defined on the Server as a windows printer (connected on a
port f.i a Windows Print Extension - WPE port) when the job is to be sent via the TCP/IP
Print Server.
The class name must match PRISMAspool requirements to be taken into account (0-9, a-
z, A-Z, *). The default will be 1.
