4.2 Mounting to metal water pipes
Warning: Always wear protective goggles during installation.
• Before the installation of the heating cable, read all instructions carefully. Check if you have cho-
sen the correct cable length.
• Before you attach the heating cable, please ensure that the area around the pipe is free of sharp
edges or flammable materials. Remove old heating cables before you proceed further and smoo-
then any sharp edges with the file.
• When mounting the heating cable, the minimum temperature should be -10 °C.
Never attach
the anti-freeze heating cable if the cable is colder than -10 °C. If the heating cable is inflexible
and rigid because of the cold, please unwind it completely before you connect it to a 230 V~ sok-
ket outlet to let it become warm and pliable. After that, disconnect it from the power supply and
attach it to the pipe.
• Please ensure that you use a properly grounded socket outlet for power supply. We recommend
the use of a ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) receptacle or circuit breaker. Use 230 V~ only
and ensure that the socket outlet is not overloaded. The heating cable consumes max. 5 A. If an
extension cable is required, please use a sufficiently grounded cable suitable for outdoors.
• The thermostat at the end of the heating cable must be positioned tightly next to the pipe and
should be mounted by means of a high-quality insulation tape. The thermostat should be located
at the coldest end of the pipe. It detects the pipe temperature and turns the heating cable on or
off to ensure an efficient operation.
• Use high-quality insulation tape every 15 cm to lay the heating cable straight along the pipe. The
minimum bending radius of the heating cable is 25 mm.
Warning: Always use high-quality insulation tape with a minimum temperature resistance of
+80 °C. Other tapes cannot prevent the cable from moving at normal operating tempe-
ratures and this may lead to overheating, fire and electric shock.
• A fibre glass or similar insulation of max. ½“ thickness must be mounted over the heating cable to
protect it from low temperatures. This insulation must also cover the thermostat. The insulation
must be protected with an additional, waterproof wrapping.
Warning: We recommend the use of a receptacle with a GFCI to reduce the risk of fire or electric
shock caused by a damaged or improperly mounted heating cable. Electric residual cur-
rent caused by a damaged or improperly mounted cable might not be high enough to
trigger a common circuit breaker. If you do not know, whether your electrical circuit is
protected by a GFCI, please consult your electrician. Note: Many receptacles in mobile
homes are NOT protected by a GFCI.
