the connection between the Lighter and the propane cylinder.
3. Tighten the propane cylinder until it is fully seated by hand tightening.
DO NOT
over tighten the Lighter
fitting to the propane cylinder.
CONNECTING TO THE GAS SUPPLY CYLINDER
LEAK CHECKING YOUR LIGHTER
You should leak check your Lighter before each use and at the beginning
of each grilling/smoking season.
•
During the leak test, keep Lighter away from open flames or sparks.
•
Never use an open flame to check for leakage.
• DO NOT
smoke during leak testing.
• Lighter must be leak tested outdoors in a well ventilated area. Never
perform a leak check indoors or inside a garage.
Materials needed include a clean paint brush and a 50/50 soap and wa-
ter solution. Use mild soap and water. Use of household cleaning agents
may result in damage to the Lighter components.
1. Be sure the control knob is turned off.
2. Brush the soapy solution onto the cylinder connection.
3. If growing bubbles appear, there is a leak. Retighten the cylinder and
repeat soapy solution.
4. If you cannot stop a leak, remove gas cylinder from the Lighter and
check for damaged threads, dirt, and debris on both gas cylinder and
Lighter. Remove any obstruction that may be found and repeat leak
test. If threads are damaged on either the Lighter or the gas cylinder,

• Use only cylinders marked “Propane Fuel.” Do not use MAPP gas.
• Cylinder must be constructed and marked in accordance with
the specifications for LP-gas cylinders of the U.S. Department of
Transportation (DOT) or the National Standard of Canada, CAN/
CSA-B339, Cylinders, Spheres and Tubes for the Transportation of
Dangerous Goods
• Size should be 4” diameter, 8” height.
• Save cylinder cap and reinstall when not in use.
• The gas cylinder must be oriented for vapor withdrawal. The gas
cylinder must remain upright while in use.
• Do not expose the lighter or LP cylinder to temperatures exceeding
120°F/49°C or prolonged sunlight.

The Charcoal Lighter is designed to be operated with the propane cylinder in the vertical position with the
flame pointed towards the ground. Always use the Lighter with the cylinder in the upright position. If tilted
toward the horizontal position liquid fuel will reach the nozzle, generating a large yellow flame. Immediately
return to the upright position and turn the knob off. Should this occur, let the Charcoal Lighter remain idle for
approximately 5 to 10 minutes before attempting to relight the Lighter. Failure to comply with these instruc-
tions and warnings may result in damage or injury to persons, animals, or personal property. This Lighter is
designed to combust vapor-fuel output from an approved propane cylinder. Do not allow liquid-fuel to feed the
flame nozzle.
