MEDIA LOAN

S - Shutter priority shooting allows you to set

the shutter speed manually. The camera sets

the aperture automatically. Turn control dial

to set the shutter speed.  If the shutter speed is

displayed in red, the setting is unsuitable for the

conditions, and green if appropriate.
M -Manual shooting allows you to set the

aperture and shutter speed manually. Set the

shutter speed by turning the control dial.  Set the

aperture by turning the control dial while holding

down the +/- button.
Tip: Using the bulb setting for the shutter speed

allows you to take exposures of up to 8 minutes.

The shutter remains open as long as the shutter

button is held down.

EXPOSURE IN MANUAL

To check the exposure, refer to the exposure

differential displayed on the monitor. The value

given is the difference between two exposures,

one being the camera’s automatic settings,

and the currently selected exposure settings.

When the shutter button is halfway pressed,

the difference (ranging from –3.0 to +3.0 EV) is

displayed. If the exposure differential appears

in red in the viewfinder or on the monitor, it

indicates that the exposure differential is less

than –3.0 EV or more than +3.0 EV.

AE LOCK

In high contrast situations the AEL (AE Lock)

can be used to lock the exposure.  When pressed a

screen appears with a bar indicating the current

exposure differential.

OTHER SHOOTING MODES

Use the mode dial for night scene, landscape,

sports, and portrait mode. These activate optimal

settings for the type of shot that corresponds to

each mode.

AUTO FOCUS

In every mode except M you can set the camera to

full time auto focus so you do not have to depress

the shutter button halfway before each shot.

Press OK while holding down AF/MF and use the

arrow keys to select FULLTIME AF. Hit the right

arrow key to display the choices.
Use the arrows to turn it on and off. Press OK to

exit the menu.
Tip: Battery consumption increases when

FULLTIME AF is used.

In any of the auto focus modes you can change the

position of the AF target so that you can select

the area on which to focus.  Set the AF mode to

SPOT. 2  Hold down AF/MF and use the arrow

pad to move the AF target mark to the area you

want to focus on. (In MF or super macro manual

focus mode, the AF target mark does not move

when the arrow pad is pressed.) Take the picture.
To restore the AF target mark to its original

position, press OK while holding down AF/MF.

Turning the camera off or changing the shooting

mode will return the AF target to the center

position. The AF target mark cannot be moved

when the digital zoom is on.

MANUAL FOCUS

To set the focus manually, turn the control dial

while holding down AF/MF and select MF. When

you release your finger from the AF/MF button,

the distance indicator is displayed on the monitor.

Press the up and down arrows to set the focus.

The area in the middle is enlarged. This lets you

check whether the focus is correct.
The distance indicator on the left of the monitor

is for reference only. When the indicator is moved

to less than 2.6 ft., the display automatically

switches to a distance scale between 8” to 2.6 ft.
Take the picture.
The focus will be locked at the distance you have

set until you change it or change modes.
Tip: If you focus in auto mode and then switch

to manual then the auto focus will not change

settings.
