BATTERY BACKUP OPERATION
The PS635 is supplied with a lithium battery.
If while connected and running, the AC power source is interrupted, the internal battery will maintain
the PS635 database memory until the AC power source is re-established or the battery’s charge is
exhausted. The coin-cell lithium battery should provide 2-3 years of backup. Note: When power is
applied to the PS635, the battery is not being drained, so should last for the life of the product.
TEST FEATURES
The PS635 has a built-in self-test mode. To activate the self test, connect a direct cable from the PS635
Input port to the PS635 Output port. This cable allows the PS635 to detect that it is in self-test mode
and allows the PS635 to transfer data back and forth across this cable as part of the self test. In
addition, the PS635 also performs a full memory test.

PS635 INPUT PORT
This cable needs to connect pins 2, 3, 5, 7 and 20 of the Input port to those same pins out the Output
port. Other pin connections do not matter for this test.
Connect power to the PS635 or press the reset button. When the PS635 recognizes that the test cable is
connected, it will do a quick test by transmitting data back and forth across the cable, and then it will
execute a memory test. If either of these tests fail, the PS635 percentage full LEDs will all flash
continuously. When both tests pass the power LED will flash about 20 times, then the whole test is
repeated, over and over until it fails or until you turn the unit off.
This is a useful “shelf-test” which can be left running for days if you are concerned about the reliability
of a given unit.
WARNING: This test will clear memory of all data. If there is data in the PS635, running this test will
wipe memory.
