IMPORTANT
IMPORTANT: Follow the steps below if your
installation utilizes a shielded fiber drop
cable. If not, proceed to Mounting the
FiberPoint MEM. Route the drop cable
up through the grommet provided at the
Entry Point. Make sure to leave 3 feet of
exposed buffer tube for later splicing.
5.
Assemble the ground shield connector onto the drop
cable. See ‘Figure 3-2: Fiber Optic Cable Ground
Shield Assembly’.
6.
Attach the Ground Strap to the ground shield.
7.
Using electrical tape, wrap the connections just made
to minimize the effects of corrosion.
8.
Connect the other end of the Ground Strap to a cus-
tomer premises grounding system.
NOTE: The Structured Wiring Enclosure should have
a power strip attached to it. A ground lug is
available on any of the power outlets included
with the power strip.
9.
See ‘Figure 3-3: Assembled Drop Cable and Ground’
for the completed ground and cable installation.
Mounting the FiberPoint MEM
The MEM will be attached to a bracket and mounted in the
upper right hand corner of the SWE.
1.
Locate the MEM Mounting Bracket.
2.
Using the bracket as a template, mark the location of
the four mounting holes with the bracket placed
against the SWE. See See ‘Figure 3-4: SWE with
3.
Drill pilot holes as necessary through the SWE.
NOTE: It is possible to use some of the existing pilot
holes in the SWE, depending on where you
decide to mount the MEM bracket.
4.
Use #6-32 x 3/8” thread forming screws (not provided)
to secure the bracket to the SWE.

IMPORTANT
IMPORTANT: Make sure that the screws you are using
are not longer than 3/8”. If the screws
are too long, they may protrude through
the sheetrock behind the SWE (for
recessed mount applications).
5.
Refer to Figure 3-5 for the following steps:
6.
Remove the card from it’s anti-static plastic shipping
container.
ATTENTION!
OBSERVE PRECAUTIONS FOR
HANDLING ELECROSTATIC
SENSITIVE DEVICES
7.
Orient the board with the power connector positioned
in the upper left hand corner of the board.
8.
Slip the board underneath the two mounting tabs near
the top of the enclosure.
9.
Pivot the board downward until the mounting hole in
the lower left hand corner slips over the mounting post
on the ground bus.
