A test is conducted to determine serviceability of the battery. The open circuit voltage (OCV) of a battery is
directly proportional to its State Of Charge percentage (SOC%) after it has been allowed to settle/cool for 30
minutes or more. Immediately following charging a battery will briefly hold a higher voltage, as charging raises
the temperature and activity level of chemical elements within the battery. A settlement/cooling period is
required to attain a more accurate State Of Charge.
STEPS 9, 10 and 11 are the same for Pb (lead-acid) and LFP ( LiFePO
4
), but the open circuit voltage (OCV)
recorded during the test is different; LFP ( LiFePO
4
) hold a higher OCV voltage after charging.
STEP 9 -
Delivery of current to the battery is interrupted to allow the program to determine the battery’s ability
to retain the charge it has received.
60' mode: A basic test is performed to confirm if the battery is healthy. LED #6 will continue to flash if the
voltage remains above 12.3V. For a voltage below 12.3V LED #8 will flash rapidly.
Pb or LFP mode:
LED #6 (green) will continue flashing for batteries able to hold 90% or higher state of charge (SOC%), otherwise
the TEST result is adjusted lower (LED #7, LED #8) in real time according to the measured battery voltage.
The test concludes when the TEST LEDs #6, #7 or #8 turn full on.
Result explained, see tables below.
80% to 100%
- Expected of a new battery; the battery is ready to be used. No further charging is required, but
if left connected the program continues to STEP 10 for a final cell balancing charge.
60 to 80%
- The battery may have lost capacity, but is still serviceable. Leave connected to proceed to STEP
10.
Less than 60%
- The battery may be unservicable. Testing continues for an additional 11 1/2 hours, to allow
the battery more time to cool/settle. If the result improves to 60% charging may continue to STEP 10,
otherwise charging is suspended. Read NOTES below.
Pb (lead-acid) test result:
IMPORTANT - STD (wet-cell) batteries hold a lower open circuit voltage than AGM/VRLA batteries.

NOTES:
A battery charged in high ambient temperature environment (30-45°C/86-113°F), or a battery
recovered from a deep discharged state may need longer to cool/settle to better reflect its true state of charge
(SOC%).
A battery charged and tested below 0°C/32°F or above 45°C/113°F may not have received a complete charge,
resulting in a lower State Of Charge result.
ERROR! LED #8 blinking rapidly - ERROR!
