000 Servers Installation and Service Manual • April 2011
2. If the fan controller resets still occur, try to discover the faulty FRU by replacing
the link cards in the I/O boats. If the problem still occurs, replace the I/O boats.
If the problem still occurs, replace the chassis.
D.2.7.2
Fan Controller Timeout
The fan controller continuously monitors sensors in the PSUs and I/O boats. If the
fan controller is too busy handling some types of error conditions, it may not respond
to system commands within expected time limits causing the microcontroller to time
out. This might cause a device failure reported for
hc:///iox=
box_instance
/fanctrl=0
.
Possible Causes
■
A hardware reset of the fan controller may cause it to not respond within the
expected time limit.
■
The fan controller might not respond to commands received on the main I
2
C bus if
it is waiting to complete failed commands on a different I
2
C bus.
Resolution
1. Fix the fan controller resets, then see if the fan controller timeouts still occur.
See
Section D.2.7.1, “Fan Controller Reset” on page D-19
2. Resolve the I
2
C errors and avoid hot-plugging the I/O boats.
Reseat and/or swap the PSUs to determine if communication problems exist on
the I
2
C buses.
D.2.7.3
Bridge Controller Reset
There is no external reset signal routed to the bridge controller on the link card.
Possible Causes
■
The link card is faulty.
Resolution
●
Replace the link card.
