The UPD motor/driver is designed primarily for use as a

high performance positioning de

v

ice

It is recommended

for applications that have a duty cycle made up ol a com

b1nallon  ol running and stopped periods  The stopped

periods allow the motor and driver lo cool down because

of the automatic current cutback at standstill.

The recommended conservalive duty cycle for the  U PD

motor/driver package  1s 50%. This  means  the  motor  1s

running 50%  of  lhe time.  and  stopped with  the current

automatically cutback  for  the  remainder  of the  lime.

Actual duty cycle limil will depend on the load, heat sink

ing, actual time stopped verses running, air flow around

the driver and motor. and ambient temperature. The duty

cycle  limit  can  easily  be  determined  by  temperature

measurement  The  motor  can  be  run  continuously  as

long as the driver temperature is below 80' C (17fj
