Guide Scope
Mounting Plate
#7382
These assembly instructions assume you are using optional guide
scope tube rings that come with their own mounting screws, such
as the Orion 80mm guide scope tube rings. You will need a 10mm
wrench or small adjustable crescent wrench to attach the guide
scope mounting plate.
Attach the guide scope tube rings to the top of the guide scope
mounting plate. The top of the mounting plate is the side with the
groove down the center. If you are using a long-tube guide scope
(such as the Orion 80mm Guide Scope) then use the non-recessed
holes near the ends of the mounting plate to attach the tube rings
(Figure 1). If you are using a short-tube guide scope (such as the
Orion ShortTube 80mm), then use the non-recessed holes near
the middle of the mounting plate. Using the two hex-head screws
that come with the tube rings, push the bolts up through the mount-
ing plate and thread them into the threaded holes on the guide
scope tube rings. Tighten the bolts with the wrench.
Attach the guide scope mounting plate to the tube rings on your
telescope. Use the two hex head screws that come with the plate
to do this. You will need to remove the piggyback camera adapter
from the top of the telescope tube ring, if one is installed. There
are two sets of recessed holes; these holes will match up with the
spacing of the telescope tube rings on the Orion SkyView Pro and
Atlas mounts. If you have another mount, you may need to drill
new holes in the plate to accommodate the spacing of the tube
rings. Push the screws through the plate from the top and thread
them into the holes on top of the telescope tube rings. Use the
wrench to tighten the screws. You may also need to use different
screws if you are using non-Orion tube rings.
The guide scope mounting plate, with guide scope tube rings
attached, is now ready to be used with a guide scope for astropho-
tography. Unthread all alignment thumbscrews on the guide scope
tube rings until they are flush with the inside of the inside of the
rings before inserting the guide scope. Tighten the six guide scope
alignment thumbscrews equally until the guide scope is secure.
