These remove & replace instructions

WARNING:  To reduce the risk of electric shock or
damage to equipment, disconnect the power by
unplugging the power cord.

Electrostatic Discharge Information

A discharge of static electricity can damage micro-circuitry
or static-sensitive devices. To help prevent electrostatic
damage, observe the following precautions:

Transport and store items in static-safe containers

Keep electrostatic-sensitive parts in their containers

Use properly-grounded tools

Make sure you are always properly grounded

Keep the work area free of non-conductive materials

Avoid touching pins, leads, or circuitry

Disconnect Power and Connections

1.

Make sure that there are no backup or restore
operations running on the affected appliance.

2.

In the GUI, click

Maintenance

 >

Shut Down

 >

OK

Wait one minute. Make sure the appliance is shut down
(all lights are off) before continuing.

3.

Disconnect all data cables from the appliance.

4.

Disconnect the power cords from the appliance.

Remove Appliance from Rack

WARNING:  It is recommended that a mechanical lifter
(or at least two people) be used to prevent injury during
rack installation or removal.

1.

Using two people, remove the appliance from the rack
by extending the slide rails and then releasing the slide
locks. Place it on an ESD surface.

2.

Remove the screws from the cover of the appliance and
lift the cover off. Set the screws and cover aside.

Determine Location of the Failed Fan

CAUTION:

The following steps require enabling power to

the unit while the cover is off. Overland Storage strongly
recommends only Authorized Service Providers perform
these steps.

1.

Reconnect the AC power cords to the unit and to the
power mains.

2.

Turn the appliance on by holding the power switch in
the

power on

 position for approximately 1 second.

3.

Note which fan is not functioning.
With the power on, check the fans in the rear of the
appliance. If these fans are working, the failed fan is in
the center of the appliance. Note the failed fan.

4.

Power off the appliance (see

“Disconnect Power and

Connections,”

 above) and proceed to

“Remove Fan.”

IMPORTANT:  Identify and note the failed fan

before

powering the appliance off.
