3. Select the
Copy backup data
option.
4. Click on the disk or partition (a disk may be divided into multi-
ple partitions) that will be used to store the recovery data and
click on Ok.
5. The Recovery Backup Creator will check that there is enough
space available on the selected disk. If there is not enough
space, either remove some files from the disk or use a disk with
a higher capacity.
Certain types of devices (such as memory cards or USB memory keys) must be formatted before the
recovery data may be copied. All data on the disk will be permanently lost.
6. Remove the disk from your computer (using the remove hardware icon in the notification area) and
label it
Recovery Backup
.
7. Store the disk in a safe place. It contains the recovery data for your computer and may be used with
Packard Bell utilities such as
Smart Restore
and the
Recovery Program
.
Removing the Recovery Data
After copying the backup data you may remove the recovery data from your computer. We strongly
recommend that you keep the recovery data on your computer, as this will allow you to use
Smart Restore
quickly and easily.
Simply start the
Recovery Backup Creator
(as described above), select the
Remove backup data
option and
folow the instructions. The freed space will appear as a new hard disk drive in the
My Computer
window.
(the internal hard disk is partitioned into 2 virtual drives). Depending on your configuration, this new drive is
usually named ‘Local Disk’. To access it, click on Start > My computer and select Local Disk.
The Packard Bell Recovery and Recovery Backup Creator options are removed from Smart Restore
if you remove the backup data from your computer.
You must use the disk containing the recovery data to start your computer to access the Packard
Bell Recovery Program.
