Watching TV
If the television channels are not displayed automatically, either press
the Live TV button ( ) or select the My TV
section and then Live TV.
The first detected channel will be displayed, use the Channel
Up
and
Down
buttons or press a number on the keypad to switch between
channels.
If you wish to change the order of the channels, or remove
unneeded channels, you may do so by returning to the Win-
dows Media Center main menu (press the green Media
Center button or Back) and selecting Settings, TV and then
Guide. You may then select the type of modification to be
made.
Channels supplied by a set-top box or similar external receiver
may not be modified in Windows Media Center. Available
channels are pre-programmed and you must use the set-top
box controls to adjust the options.
If you have selected to receive DVB-T signals, the
My TV
section
of Windows Media Center will not process analogue signals
(including FM radio). You may use the
Video Capture
section to
view (and record) analogue television signals.
If you have selected to use a set-top box to receive the television
signal, the
My TV
section of Windows Media Center will be ded-
icated to this device. You must use the
Video Capture
section to
receive digital or analogue terrestrial television signals. Use the
tools provided by this section to scan for and display channels.
Teletext
While watching television you may browse
Teletext pages. Simply press the Teletext button
on the remote control (see page 6) or press More
and select Teletext from the list.
You may type page numbers to be displayed on
the remote control’s keypad, or use the controls
on the bottom of the screen to control the
display. Select Close or press the Teletext button
again to exit the Teletext pages.
Time Shifting
Time Shifting
provides two related features, it allows you to:
• pause live TV and resume viewing at a later time,
• perform an ‘instant replay’ and watch a moment of live TV that
you want to view again.
Pause Live TV
The Smart TV32 can pause live TV and keep a
recording of the TV signal that is received after the
image is paused (up to a limit of 30 minutes).
Simply press the Pause button while watching live
TV. The image will stop and a progress bar will be displayed on the
screen. The bar shows the time, in multiples of an hour, with the start
time of the recorded session, the current time and inside this available
recording time, the playback time of the image being shown on the
screen.
You may use the standard playback controls (
Play
,
Forward
,
Reverse
...)
to control the recording.
The recording will be lost if you change channels!
Time shifting information is stored in a ‘buffer’ that may con-
tain up to 30 minutes of recording. After this recording limit
has been reached, the buffer will be progressively overwrit-
ten. Any recording longer than 30 minutes will be lost.
It is possible that a recording has been scheduled at a time you
are watching TV that has been Time Shifted. As you cannot
watch a Time Shifted programme and record another chan-
nel, the Smart TV32 will confirm if you want to keep watch-
ing the current channel or proceed with the scheduled
recording. If there is no response, the recorder assumes the
scheduled recording should be started. The message will
appear five minutes before the scheduled recording is due to
start.
Instant Replay (play back live TV moments)
When you start watching a channel, the Smart TV32
automatically stores up to 30 minutes of live TV. This
allows you to rewind and fast forward through the
last 30 minutes of a programme.
You may jump back through this recording if you have seen something
you would like to see again. Simply press the Replay button to skip
back seven seconds. You may do this several times until you reach the
limit of 30 minutes.
Press the Skip button to move forward
30
seconds, until you reach the
current, live TV signal.
Effectively, this feature allows you to act is if you have pressed the
Pause
button seven seconds ago. The time limit of 30 minutes still
applies.
The recording is also limited to the last time you changed
channels; i.e. if you changed channels 5 minutes ago, you may
not replay more than 5 minutes, even if you were viewing the
same channel before.
Recording TV
You may use the Smart TV32 to record TV programmes and then
watch them at another time. The programmes are stored on the
internal hard disk drive. You may program a recording manually, or
use the
Electronic Program Guide
to browse through the programme
listings.
