2.2.
Installing the WAP-O3G
The diagram below depicts the hardware configuration using a PoE Injector:
The first step is to perform a site survey. Note the layout and dimensions of buildings and their building
material (brick walls, lathe & plaster, etc.) Note the placement of any previously installed wireless
access points as well as any competing devices such as 2.4 GHz phones, microwave ovens, neighbors’
wireless devices, etc. Identify areas outside or in adjacent buildings where you’re most likely to want
wireless access.
1.
From the survey, determine potential locations for the WAP-O3G.
2.
Temporarily position the WAP-O3G close to its prospective final location.
3.
Run a Category 5e (CAT5e) Ethernet cable from the temporarily-placed WAP-O3G to where the
PoE device will be located. Make sure to leave extra cable at both ends. NOTE: The maximum
length of the CAT5e cable should be 328 feet. This is the recommended limit of Ethernet.
4.
At the wireless access point end of the Cat5e cable, slide the seal nut and rubber seal washer
onto the cable. Then, plug the Cat5e cable into the RJ45 jack as shown in the diagram below.
Finally, fasten down the washer and the nut.
