5.7 External combustion air intake
It is mandatory to ensure an external air intake to
guarantee the inflow of combustion air to the appliance
(C)
(Fig. 5.7a)
.
It is forbidden to take combustion air from garages,
warehouses of combustible material or premises that
are subject to the risk of fire.
The combustion air intake must be protected by an anti
screen
(G)
(Fig. 5.7a)
and must be positioned in such a
way as not to be accidentally obstructed. It must also be
designed in such a way that the useful passage surface
ensures the correct quantity of oxygen to the fire box.
For the correct operation of the machine, it is not
advisable for the combustion air hose to pass under
the fan.
In the case in the room where is located the fireplace
there are one or more extraction fans operating (suction
hoods) malfunctions to the combustion may occur caused
by a shortage of combustion air.
To the side of the covering two vents must be created
for recirculation of the natural circulation heating air (or
forced ventilation if required by the model purchased).
The minimum air passage section must be not less than
842 cm
2
.
If the combustion air pipe is not connected to the outside
of the house, but outside the covering, create an external
air intake
(A)
for air exchange in the room
(Fig. 5.7b)
.
In the upper part of the hood must be installed the
appropriate vents supplied
(T)
(Fig. 5.7b)
.
In the event that the supplied vents are not used, provide
a minimum heat venting section of 1263 cm
2
.
5.8 Hood liner
For constructing the hood liner it is recommended to
use flame retardant plasterboard .
Before creating the hood liner, the control unit must be
installed.
During creation of the hood it is essential to protect the
door sliding frame with nylon to prevent dust, mortar
or other foreign bodies damaging the sliding system.
Remove the protection when the work is completed.
Provide for suitable lateral openings to inspect the
components.
Before carrying out the final assembly it will be advisable
to carry out a smoke test, i.e. to test the operation of the
appliance.
