CONCEPT

Today’s instrument amplifiers mostly feature a single input only, especially guitar amps. To connect two

instruments simultaneously and match their levels usually requires a small, inexpensive mixer. However,

these often generate excessive noise when connected to guitar amplifiers. Enter the Palmer DUETTO...

USE

The Palmer DUETTO is a miniature mixer with a discrete FET input circuit. Featuring tube-like character-

istics, FET gain and impedance are extremely suitable for electric guitars. The DUETTO also works well

with other instruments and line level equipment providing lossless, active mixing of two sources. Both

inputs feature trim pots to match varying instrument levels. This enables two guitar players to use a sin-

gle input amplifier simultaneously, e.g. teacher and student, or for impromptu sessions. The DUETTO can

also be used for playing along to MP3 or other music players (a suitable cable or adapter may be

required for connection). Due to the low current draw the DUETTO is easily powered by a standard 9V

battery for many hours. A DC input is provided for use with an external mains adapter.

CONNECTIONS AND SETUP

Use high quality shielded instrument cable for connection. For use with passive guitar pickups input

cable length should not exceed 20 ft. (6m) to prevent treble roll-off. Due to the lo-Z output cable length

from the DUETTO to the amplifier input is less critical. Input 1 is switched and activates the DUETTO

when a cable is inserted. CAUTION: use cable with 6.3mm TS plugs (mono jack) only. Always disconnect

from input 1 to prevent battery drain when not using the DUETTO. The other cables may remain con-

nected. Use the GAIN trim pots next to the inputs to set the input levels. To indicate proper function a low

level signal will be present even when set fully counterclockwise. Turn fully clockwise for the maximum

amplification of 6dB (level x 2).

POWER SUPPLY

The DUETTO can be powered by a standard 9V battery or an external mains adapter (e.g. Palmer PW9V).

When inserting a battery please observe the correct polarity as indicated inside the battery compart-

ment. To check the battery press the button next to the battery compartment. The LED indicator lights

up if the battery provides sufficient power.  A DC input is provided for external powering (5.5mm barrel

style with 2.1mm negative center pin as indicated on the unit). The DUETTO works with a filtered supply

of 9 - 18V DC. External powering automatically disconnects the battery. If the DUETTO is not used for an

extended period of time the battery should be removed to prevent damage from leakage.
