Aurora H2O User’s Manual
Technology in Process Industries” (NAMUR) published in NE43, version 03.03.2003. When configured for 4-20mA
operation, faults and errors are indicated by specific output levels shown in
Figure 41
below:
Figure 41: NAMUR Output Value Ranges
In normal operation, a valid measurement is indicated with a signal between 3.8 and 20.5 mA. The Lower (Zero) and
Upper (Span) settings determine the measurement value assigned to 4.0 and 20.0 mA, respectively.
For the measurement assigned to an output, the
Aurora H2O
continuously checks if an error has occurred. If an error
has occurred, the output will be driven to a current which is within the Error Information bands displayed above. The
Aurora H2O
can signal 3.5 mA ('NAMUR Low') or 21.1 mA ('NAMUR High'). These values are well within the Error
Information bands as specified by NAMUR (see
Table 3
below).
Note:
The Aurora H2O will never produce a signal between 3.6-3.8 mA or between 20.5-21.0 mA, to allow for
reliable discrimination between a measurement and an error.
3.5.6.1
NAMUR Filtering
There may be situations where the NAMUR signaling behavior is undesirable (see Table 4 below). For example, a
process operating at or near the
Aurora H2O
calibration limits, or when connected to a SCADA or DCS system that
cannot correctly distinguish between a measurement and an error signal. In these cases, the NAMUR reporting
behavior can be suppressed (“inhibited”). From the Output menu, select NAMUR:
Then select the error(s) to inhibit:
Error
Description
Signal
Under Range
The measurement is less than the calibrated range of the analyzer
NAMUR Low
Over Range
The measurement is greater than the calibrated range of the analyzer
NAMUR High
Out of Range
Calculation error or associated measurement (Temp/Pressure) invalid
NAMUR High
No Data
Measurement value has not been calculated yet
NAMUR High

NONE
No errors are inhibited; NAMUR signaling will occur for any error as shown in the table above.
LoRng
Under Range errors are inhibited; NAMUR signaling will NOT occur for Under Range error conditions.
NAMUR signaling will occur for all other errors in the table above.
