Basic Operation

Be extremely careful not to lose the product. Always lock the storage area and,
if you take it outside, always keep it with you to prevent theft or unauthorized
use by a third person.
l
Before using the product, check the terminal for any trace of disassembly or
modification. Do not use it if any abnormality is observed.
l
Do not open the housing of the product and do not modify the product.
l
The product uses internal batteries to perform backup of important operational
data. Do not remove the battery because doing so will delete the backup data,
which may disable operation of the product. Charge the battery pack at least
once per six months if the product is not used for a long time.
How to input a password (Give this information to customers)
l
If a password is required for transaction, ask the customer to input it. Inputting
a password is possible when the LED on the side of the touch panel is lighting
green. Be sure to check the LED before asking a customer to input.
LED Indicator
Off:
In hibernation or when inputting numbers is pos-
sible in normal state.
Green:
In secure state where inputting password is pos-
sible.
Red:
Detecting a security problem.

To prevent unauthorized use by a third person, observe the following instruc-
tions to keep the password secret.

The customer him/herself must input the password.
y
The customer should hold the product by hand when inputting the password.
y
The customer should use his/her hand or other body part to hide the pass-
word from people nearby.
y
The customer should use his/her hand or other body part to hide the pass-
word from a security camera.
Signature verification <for credit cards>
l
Some applications may require a printed slip and signature on it.
l
If the signature field is blank in the sales slip for the credit card company, al
-
ways ask the customer to sign his/her signature in it and verify it with the sig-
nature on the back of the credit card.
(This is not necessary if “a signature is not necessary” is printed in the field.)
