Data Compression
Data compression, available on Port 1 only, is a feature that allows higher DTE
port rates over the DDS network, reducing network bandwidth, as well as cost
and time for transmissions without losing data. When enabled, port rates up to
256 kbps are supported.
Data compression capabilities provided by the FrameSaver 9620 include:
In Frame Relay mode for frame relay DTEs, supports selective data payload
compression of up to six customer-configured PVCs.
In Bit-Synchronous mode for DTEs supporting other HDLC-like protocols,
supports compression with frame relay encapsulation over a single
network PVC.
Supports DTE port rate of up to 256 kbps with continuous clock rate flow
control.
Supports short packet by-pass mode, where short packets will be transmitted
to the network without being compressed.
Supports optimization to emphasize high throughput or low latency.
Configuration Shortcuts
Configuration shortcuts have been provided to simplify configuration of the
FrameSaver access unit and its features. Initially, this feature can be used to
speed setup of the access unit. Then, by selecting a frame relay discovery
method, configuration and cross-connection of DLCIs (and EDLCIs) can be
performed within the access unit on an automatic and continuing basis.
Configuration shortcuts provided by the FrameSaver 9620 include:
Configuration templates – Configure the non-frame relay portion of the
FrameSaver access unit.
Based upon the template selected that best fits your application, one or two
ports can be automatically configured, with or without data compression.
Frame relay discovery method – Configures the frame relay portion of the
FrameSaver access unit.
Based upon the local management interface (LMI) status response
messages when the network interface is configured as the user side of LMI,
the FrameSaver access unit automatically “discovers” a network DLCI and
cross-connects the DLCI to a port DLCI, provided the port is configured as
the user side. Management PVCs can also be “discovered” and
cross-connected.
