Installing the Hotwire 6040 MVL Wall Jack Phone Filter

Procedure

1. The local loop provides dial tone 

and terminates at the NID (Network 
Interface Device) at the customer 
premises. Disconnect the existing
POTS wiring on the customer 
premises side of the NID.

WARNING:

Do not continue unless 
the existing POTS wiring 
has been disconnected. 
Refer to Important Safety
Instructions,
 page 3.

2. Remove the wall-mount phone from the 

existing wall jack by sliding up and off existing 
wall jack.

3. Disconnect the wires from the existing wall jack.

4. Remove the four screws from the filter faceplate 

and set the faceplate aside.

5. Connect the wires disconnected in Step 3 to 

the screw terminals of the wall jack phone 
filter as follows (your wiring colors may differ):

— Red: FILTER IN TIP

— Green: FILTER IN RING

6. Fasten the filter assembly to the wall box 

using the screws that held the old wall jack. 
An engraving on the filter assembly (UP

shows the proper orientation.

7. Fasten the faceplate to the filter assembly.

8. Reattach the wall-mount phone to the new 

wall jack.

9. Reconnect the wiring to the local loop at the NID.
