Lasair II Particle Counter Operations Manual
Chapter 7:
Web Server
The Lasair II particle counter provides a Web interface which looks and functions
similar to the front panel screens. The instrument may be controlled or simply
monitored for status or problems using a standard Web browser such as Internet
Explorer or Netscape
®
. In addition, data on the particle may be quickly transferred
to a computer.
Lasair II Particle Counter Serial Interface
This is an easy-to-use RS-232 protocol which allows users to write their own
communications routines for talking with computers. The protocol is similar to the
older Lasair communications interface, but it has been enhanced with status
feedback messages. See Appendix F.
PMS Multi-Drop Protocol (MiniLaz Emulation)
This is a second RS-232 protocol which can be enabled on the Lasair II particle
counter. This protocol allows communicating in a multi-drop environment (like a
telephone party-line) such as an RS-485 system. This communications mode allows
the particle counter to emulate a MiniLaz instrument when connected to Facility
Net using a serial interface rather than the network interface. See Appendix G.
4-20 mA Output
With the optional 4-20 mA output board, data can be output in this format. See
Appendix I.
DataAnalyst
With the use of external software called DataAnalyst reports can be recreated
outside the instrument, along with data storage and retrevial capabilities.
