SmartNode devices overview
The SmartNode SN5550 Enterprise Session Border Controller (eSBCs)/Integrated Access Device (IAD) series
and SN4150 VoIP Gateway series (see figure 1) combo configuration of 2 BRI/2 FXS or 4 BRI/4FXS or in
addition with 2 or 4 FXO ports, fits the requirements of small and medium-sized enterprises requiring a solu-
tion to enable legacy equipment for VoIP networks. Both combine IP routing, VoIP security and quality of ser-
vice (QoS) for up to 4/8 voice and FAX calls over any IP. The SmartNode devices deliver the legacy phone
interfaces, service transparency, and flexible integration required for All-IP networks. Both also offer the
optional embedded PacketSmart Agent for network monitoring and assessment 24x7.

The SmartNode SN5550 eSBC and SN4150 VoIP Gateways are equipped with 2 ISDN BRI S0/T0 and 2
FXS ports (some Models in addition have 2 FXO ports) providing 4 G.722/G.711 or 4 T.38 calls simultane-
ously or with 4 ISDN BRI S0/T0 and 4 FXS ports (some models in addition have 4 FXO ports) providing 8
G.722/G.711 or 8 T.38 calls simultaneously; one or two 10/100/1000 Base-T Ethernet ports; and a single
USB port (SN55xx and SN41xx/2ETH models); provides voice over IP (VoIP) using SIP; Internet access rout-
ing (SN41xx license required); Stateful Firewall functions; extensive QoS functions; an optional PacketSmart
Agent for voice assessment and monitoring; and much more.
