Kirk Key Interlocks
Bypass Mode is entered by physically setting up the MCCBs and MCSWs to go to bypass. The STS has
key-interlocked bypass MCCBs/MCSWs allowing logic to be disconnected from power sources without
interrupting output load power (Figure 17). Engaging the bypass and returning from bypass to STS
normal mode both require the operator to manipulate Kirk Keys and MCCBs or MCSWs.

Isolation MCCBs or MCSWs are not interlocked.
Bypass MCCBs are interlocked with

Only one bypass should be closed at a time (to
prevent cross-connecting both sides).
Source 1 MCCB and Bypass 2 MCCB/MCSW are
interlocked with
Key 1

If Source 1 MCCB is closed,
Bypass 2 MCCB/MCSW must be open.
If Source 1 is open, Bypass must be closed.
Source 2 MCCB and Bypass 1 MCCB are interlocked
with
Key 2

Bypass 1 MCCB/MCSW must be open.
If Source 2 is open, Bypass 1 is closed.
