Teach Me Mode

Teach Me mode starts with a set of tones that progressively increase in pitch as food-delivery

approaches. Over time, the sequence increases to 24 tones. Your dog should experience Teach Me Mode

approximately 6-8 times before continuing to Calm Me Mode. Before continuing to Calm Me Mode, your

dog should be relaxed around the AutoTrainer Base Unit and comfortable taking food from the dish.

Remember, every dog will learn at a different pace.
Your dog will learn that:
1. Food delivery is predicted by a progressive sequence of tones and that there is nothing that the dog

can do to speed up or slow down the food delivery.
2. The AutoTrainer Base Unit knows when it is being pawed, scratched, bitten, jiggled or tilted and signals

this to the dog with an “Uh-Oh” tone only when the AutoTrainer Base Unit and AutoTrainer Collar are both

on and synced.
3. The AutoTrainer Base Unit knows when the dog barks and signals bark-detection by an “Uh-Oh” tone.
First Session in Teach Me Mode
•
Your dog should not have eaten for at least 4 hours. Be sure the AutoTrainer Collar is on and correctly

fit to your dog’s neck. (refer to diagram from page 8)

• Fill the Food Hopper with your dog’s daily allowance of kibble and place the AutoTrainer in an area

where your dog will have easy access to it. Do this while your dog is not present in the room. Be sure

to place the AutoTrainer on a hard, flat surface. The suction cups on the bottom of the AutoTrainer

Base Unit will hold the AutoTrainer Base Unit in place if your dog pushes it. Failure to suction the

AutoTrainer Base Unit to the floor could result in interference with the function of the AutoTrainer if

tipped over by a dog.

• Turn on the AutoTrainer and select the Teach Me mode. Adjust the volume to a level that you and

your dog are comfortable with, depending on how much space the dog has to walk around during

training. There will be a sequence of tones followed by a delivery of a kibble in the bowl.

• Now let your dog into the room and stand or sit near the AutoTrainer. Show the dog the kibble and,

if need be, encourage him/her to eat it. The AutoTrainer will dispense once after each sequence of

tones. Depending on the size of the kibble, 1-3 pieces should dispense each time. If your dog is not

interested in eating the kibble, try adding a few tasty dry/semi-dry treats to the kibble to increase their

interest.

• About ten seconds after your dog eats the kibble, the tone sequence will begin again and deliver

more kibble. You should just speak calmly and encourage your dog to eat the kibble when it is

delivered.

• If your dog does not eat the kibble, the AutoTrainer will emit a reminder tone to your dog every 60

seconds until they eat the kibble/treat. Once the dog eats the kibble, the sequence begins again.

• If your dog barks at the AutoTrainer, just ignore the barking. You and your dog will hear the

AutoTrainer respond to the barks with an "Uh-Oh" sound. The sequence will continue. Your dog will

begin to associate the "Uh-Oh" sound with their barking.

• The first meeting in Teach Me mode should last 20 minutes or more. Every time you turn the

AutoTrainer Base Unit off, be sure to feed your dog the remainder of their food to ensure they meet

their daily calorie intake requirements.

• The AutoTrainer should now be put away in a secure place that is not available to the dog so that the

dog knows training time is over.

Second Session in Teach Me Mode
Preferably on the day following the first meeting, reintroduce the AutoTrainer again in the same manner as

on the first meeting.
• Your dog should not have eaten for at least 4 hours. Be sure the AutoTrainer Collar is on and correctly

fit to your dog’s neck.

• Be sure the Food Hopper contains the dog's daily food allowance and select the Teach Me mode.

• If the dog seems comfortable eating from the AutoTrainer Base Unit you can stay in the room without

having to encourage him too much.

• The second meeting should last as long as the dog continues to eat from the AutoTrainer Base Unit.

Every time you turn the AutoTrainer Base Unit off, be sure to feed your dog the remainder of their

food to ensure they meet their daily calorie intake requirements.

• The AutoTrainer should now be put away in a secure place that is not available to the dog so that the

dog knows training time is over.

After 6-8 minutes in Teach Me Mode, when your dog seems relaxed and attentive to the delivery

of food from the AutoTrainer, it is time to move on to the Calm Me mode of operation. If your dog

seems anxious or apprehensive about the AutoTrainer, one or two more session in Teach Me mode

is advisable.

Calm Me Mode

The main difference between Calm Me and Teach Me mode is that in the Calm Me mode, once the

AutoTrainer Base Unit emits an “Uh-Oh” tone, the sequence will start from the beginning. This happens

so your dog learns that barking delays the delivery of food.
• Your dog should not have eaten for at least 4 hours. Be sure the AutoTrainer Collar is on and correctly

fit to your dog’s neck.

• Be sure the food bin is full with the dog’s daily food allowance.

• Turn on the AutoTrainer and select the Calm Me mode. Adjust the volume, if needed.

• Calm Me sessions can last for as long as you would normally leave your dog alone.

• Prior to turning off the AutoTrainer, you can now review the average barks per hour and the amount of

food dispensed an hour. Manually record this information if you would like to keep track of the history.

• Every time you turn the AutoTrainer Base Unit off, be sure to feed your dog the remainder of their

food to ensure they meet their daily calorie intake requirements.
