Fig. 8. Convergence panel

Static convergence

1.

Connect  a  "cross-hatch"  generator  to  the  appropriate  aerial

socket,  adjusting  the  tuning  of  the  generator  and/or  the  set  to

obtain sharp clearly defined vertical lines.

2.

Switch on the red and green guns only (depress switch 17)

and, keeping the brightness level fairly low, adjust the red and green

static shift magnets (see Fig. 7) to superimpose the red and green

lines at the centre of the screen only.

3.

Switch on the blue gun (depress switch 17 again) and adjust the

blue static shift magnet to superimpose the horizontal blue lines

on the red/green lines at the centre of the screen only.

4.

Adjust the blue lateral shift magnet to superimpose the vertical

blue  lines  at  the  centre  of  the  screen  only.  At  this  point  it  is

advisable to re-check red purity. If it has been affected, the purity and

static convergence adjustments must be repeated.

Dynamic convergence

During dynamic convergence, readjust static convergence as

necessary, to converge parallel lines.

1.

Switch off blue gun (depress button 17).

2.

Converge the centre vertical lines with controls (1) and (2).

3.

Converge the centre horizontal lines with control (9) and the

R/G crossover coil L1523 (see Fig. 5). Caution: The solder

tags on L1523 are at H.T. potential.

4.

Converge the horizontal lines at the bottom of the screen with

control (3) and the horizontal lines at the top of the screen

with control (4).

5.

With controls (7) and (8), converge the left and right-hand

vertical lines.

6.

Check static convergence and readjust if necessary.

7.

Switch on the blue gun (depress button (17) again).

8.

Adjust controls (10), (11) and (12) to make the blue

horizontal lines straight and parallel with the red/green

lines.

9.

With control (5), superimpose the blue horizontal lines at the

bottom of the screen on the red/green lines.

10.

With control (6), superimpose the blue horizontal lines at the

top of the screen on the red/green lines.

11.

Adjust control (13) to superimpose the blue vertical lines on the

red/green lines at both sides of the screen. If correct conver-

gence cannot be obtained, the plugged leads to the blue lateral

shift  assembly  should  be  reversed.  The  need  for  this  will  be

indicated if rotation of control (13) produces a greater error.

12.

Adjust the blue static and lateral magnets where necessary to

superimpose the blue lines on the red/green lines.

13.

Recheck static convergence and purity. If the purity has been

affected,  it  will  be  necessary  to  repeat  purity,  static  and

dynamic convergence adjustments.
