DT2010069-00
Qualified personnel must carry out all operations in safety when the appliance is cold and disconnected from the power supply.
Problem
Cause
Remedy
The window becomes
excessively dirty
Lack of draught
Check the smoke/gas discharge pipe
Wet wood
Use dry wood
Use of mediocre or poor class fuels
Change the type of fuel
(See “Fuels” paragraph)
Not enough combustion air
Open the air dampers further
Condensation forms
Section of flue too large
Reduce the section by inserting a
well insulated pipe with suitable
section inside the flue
Flue not adequately insulated
Clad the flue with hollow tiles or
other insulating materials
Slow combustion and therefore low
smoke temperature
Burn smaller and dry logs.
Open the primary air damper further
Smoke comes out of the fireplace in
adverse weather conditions
Chimney stack has no down-draught
cowl
Replace the chimney stack with one
that has a down-draught cowl
Flue not suitably insulated
Clad the flue with hollow tiles or
other insulating materials
Difficulty in lighting
Closed air damper
Put the combustion air (intake)
dampers to maximum position
Logs too large
Use smaller logs
Wood too wet
Burn drier wood
Lack of draught
Check the smoke/gas discharge pipe
Smoke comes out upon opening the
door
Door opened too fast
Keep the door just ajar for a few
seconds before fully opening
There are still flames
Only open the door when just embers
remain in the grate
