TENS – Mode of operation
The TENS therapy was developed to apply weak current via two or four electrodes
through the skin into the body tissue. Acute and chronic pain can be relieved by
this. It is a well-proven treatment, used during the last 40 years. Usually, the user
differentiates between lower and high frequency treatment.
A low-frequency use is, for instance, possible with the PierenPlus basic at Programme
3 (2 Hz). During this kind of therapy the patient can obtain pain relief via emission
of analgesic substances produced naturally in the body. The treatment is useful, as
the substances also are active after the therapy.
High frequency treatment – for instance the Programme 1 with 100 Hz – is efficient
to treat acute pain. The mode of operation is based upon the blocking of pain
transmission inside the body via stimulating current. The aching area may be
treated several times a day, usually at least 30 minutes each session.
Preparation for Treatment
Replacing batteries
The voltage of the batteries is monitored by the PierenPlus basic. If the voltage
sinks below 4 V, then the battery symbol [ ] appears in the display. It is now
necessary to place four new 1.5 V batteries (AAA e.g. LR03) in the device.
»
Switch off the PierenPlus basic.
»
Open the cover of the battery compartment on the rear by sliding in the direction
of the arrow.
»
Remove the four used batteries.
»
Insert four new batteries into the battery compartment.
»
Please use the diagram in the battery compartment as orientation.
»
Close the battery compartment again with the battery compartment cover.
Always remove the batteries if the device is not to be used for long periods. If
rechargeable batteries are used, the instructions of the battery charger are to be
followed.
Instead of batteries, you can also use rechargeable accumulators. For charging
please read the instruction manual of the charging device.
