III - INSPECTION

(12) DAILY ENGINE OIL COOLER LEAK CHECK / INSPECTION

In PA-32R-300 S/N’s 32R-7680001 thru 32R-7880068, for airplanes which have not installed
Piper Kit No. 763-859V:

each day before the first flight and after the last flight, check/inspect

the engine oil coolers for leaks as follows:

NOTE: Installation of Piper Kit No. 763-859 relieves this repetitive inspection requirement.

(a) Check the ground below the nose gear wheel well for signs of fresh engine oil deposits,

(dripping).

(b) Check the following areas of the airplane, for engine oil deposits.

Inside aft surface on nose gear doors,

Inside lower edge of lower cowl.

3

Lower forward face of firewall.

4

Aft face of nose gear strut, linkage, and tire.

5

Forward belly of fuselage.

(c) If no evidence of leaks is visible, proceed with the normal pre-flight inspection.

(d) If there is evidence of engine oil deposits in the areas specified above, remove the top

cowling and inspect both coolers for the leak source as follows: (See Figure 3-10.)

Inspect the hose connection bosses.

Inspect the cooler end fins, especially the fins adjacent to the hose connection boss.
If there is evidence of oil seepage, wipe clean with a rag, and observe if oil seepage
continues in the root of the fins, or bosses.

Inspect all other areas of coolers.

If no leak source is visible, clean off all oil deposits, and thoroughly clean the cooler
end fins and bosses. Run engine at ground idle for five (5) minutes. Stop engine and
re-inspect the coolers and connections for leaks.

(e) If the leakage is determined to be in the cooler (s), install Piper Kit No. 763-859. If kit is

not available, oil cooler P/N 16599-00 can be used, but the repetitive inspection
requirements will continue. See also paragraph 7A-14a.

(f)

If the leakage is at the cooler hose connections, tighten, conduct ground runs, and re-
inspect to confirm condition is corrected.

(g) If a cooler hose is the cause for the leakage, refer to the Cherokee Six Parts Catalog, P/N

753-689 for replacement.

(h) If leak source cannot be determined, contact your Piper Dealer Service Advisor (DSA) for

assistance.

(i)

Make an appropriate logbook entry documenting this inspection.

NOTE: If the cowl was removed in Step (d), above, and the subsidiary inspections

conducted, make a logbook entry documenting completion of the Ten (10) Hour
Engine Oil Cooler Inspection, below.
