4.2.3 Virtual Server Setup
The BRL-04AR Broadband router offers support for hosting servers on your
private network that can be accessed from the public Internet. While the
addresses on the BRL-04AR Broadband router are not directly accessible by
a computer via the Internet, the BRL-04AR Broadband router allows for
selective access. It does this by mapping incoming access requests for a
particular service to a designated host able to process requests for a specific
Internet service on your LAN.
For example, in a network there is a host providing the FTP service. The IP
address of the FTP server is 192.168.1.250 and the TCP port number for the
FTP service is 20. One of the BRL-04AR Broadband router's TCP
communication port numbers, such as 20, can be mapped to the FTP server.
