In addition to the common print server functions described above, several
new features have been supported in the Mini300plus. This chapter provides
an overview of each of the new features incorporated in this version of the
Mini series print server.
IPP (Internet Printing Protocol)
The print server supports IPP. When used with software applications with
IPP support, the print server can create a direct “path” from the user’s
Windows PC to a remote printer via the Internet. Since this scheme directly
prints data to the remote user’s printer, the remote user can receive
documents and images that are much clearer than ordinary fax images.
Furthermore, IPP eases management of networked printers as it is capable
of detecting both printers and their jobs on the Internet.
As of this writing, only Windows 2000 comes standard with IPP.
Note:
If a firewall is installed on your network, be sure to configure the firewall so
that it will grant access to the incoming IPP print requests.
