SHIFT WEIGHT INSPECTION
• Remove shift weight fasteners

and weights

Inspect the contact surface of the weight
w
. The
surface should be smooth and free of dents or gall
marks. Inspect the weight pivot bore
e
and bolts for
wear or galling. Also inspect the shift weight bushing
for wear. Replace if necessary. If weights or bolts are
worn or broken, replace in sets of three with new bolts
and nuts.
WARNING
The clutch assembly is a precisely balanced unit. Never
replace parts with used parts from another clutch
assembly.
NOTE
A damaged shift weight is usually caused by a
damaged or stuck roller in the spider assembly. Refer to
Roller, Pin, and Thrust Washer Inspection, page
procedure.
CLUTCH INSPECTION
NOTE
Remove cover, spring and spider following instructions
for drive clutch disassembly, then proceed as follows:
1. Remove the clutch spacer

, spring
w
, flange sleeve
assembly
e
, and drive helix
r
from the Sheave
assembly
t
.
2. Rotate the clutch bearing in both clockwise and
counter-clockwise directions. should rotate clockwise
and lock counter-clockwise.
