Slide Scanner Repair Manual

           Functional Description

Color Modes

The main controller PC board nominally delivers 24-bit color to the host computer.  Also
available is an 8-bit gray scale and 8-bits with selectable drop-out color.

Gray data is provided in the form of a luminance signal derived from the RGB triplets.
Scan times are identical to full color scans at the same resolution, but SCSI data rates
are 1/3 the rate of the same scan in 24-bit color.

Scanner Control

Scanner control includes lamp control, media transport control, filter wheel control, indicator
LED control, and CCD timing control.

CCD Driver

Digital image data (10-bit for SS35/SS35 ES, 12-bit for SS35 PLUS) is clocked from
the CCD Driver at 2 MHz, one color line at a time.  A clock running 12 times the pixel
rate is generated by the primary correction ASIC as well as a line sync and color sync
signals.  Vertical averaging for 1/2, 1/4, and 1/8 resolution modes is performed in the
imager on demand.

Transporter Driver

The main controller PC board provides a transporter driver that receives signals from the
microcontroller.  These signals directly drive the transporter stepper motor to its applicable
position during scanning and calibration.  A photo-sensor (U1) provides the reference for
properly positioning the transporter assembly.

LED Indicator Driver

The main controller PC board provides LED drivers that receives signals from the
microcontroller.  These signals directly drive the Power and Ready LED's.

Green Power LED indicator lights to indicate when the slide scanner power is turned on.

Note: During power-up the slide scanner initiates its system initialization.  Upon

completion, the yellow Ready LED lights steady to indicate that the slide scanner
is ready to operate.

The yellow Ready LED indicator lights to indicate when the slide scanner is ready to
operate (passed self-test).

Notes: • This indicator continually blinks while the slide scanner cycles through its

self-test.

• This indicator is turned off during all active SCSI communications.
