2 FUEL
Thor is a 2-stroke engine that needs oil/petrol mixture. Only use good
lead-free petrol (E5) purchased by a petrol station with at least 95
octanes. Add 100% good synthetic oil to the petrol at 2,5%.
Never keep the petrol into containers for a long time because its qua-
lity will be damaged. Only use certified metallic containers for petrol
carriage. Mix up the petrol with the oil ONLY when you are using it.
!
WARNING:
The nature of the carbon deposits on the cylinder
head, spark plug and exhaust port give important information about
the fuel mixture burning in your engine. Remember that mixes that
contain too much oil do not extend the engine’s life.
!
ATTENTION:
petrol is extremely inflammable and explosive.
Carry out these operations in a well ventilate place and with the
engine switched off. Refrain from smoking and avoid all naked flames
or sparks where petrol is being drained or where re-fuelling is being
performed.
!
ATTENTION!
For American customers only. The European range
of octane is different from the American one:
e.g. EU 95 (E5) OCTANE = US 91 OCTANE / EU 98 OCTANE = US 93
OCTANE
For THOR engines you must use a high-octane gasoline (not less than
US 91), 5% ethanol maximum.
!
ATTENTION!
It is important to use 100 LL AVGAS only if you
cannot find the fuel abovementioned.
3 ENGINE STARTING
Make sure that all the bolts and nuts are tightened properly, and the
fuel system works perfectly.
Start the engine only when all the parts are in good conditions and
perfectly working, and there are no persons, things or animals close to
it. Furthermore, check that all the nuts are well tightened.
3.1 FUEL SYSTEM FILLING
First cold starting: fill in the fuel system using the proper pump (care-
fully follow the instructions provided by the frame’s manufacturer to
find out it and use it in the correct way). To make this operation easier
softly push with a finger the diaphragm through the hole indicated by
the arrow in photo 1. Fill it in till the petrol reaches the carburetor. At
that moment immediately stop; if you go on acting on the pump the
petrol will leak causing the engine flooding.

3.2 THOR 190 HF ENGINE STARTING WITH ELECTRIC
STARTER
Fill in the fuel system as indicated in paragraph 3.1
For the model with electric starter the Polini throttle system has 2
buttons on the bottom part of the throttle device. To start the engine
push both the buttons together and slightly accelerate. For your safety
only proceed with this operation if you are in safe conditions.
!
ATTENTION:
the engine is equipped with lead acid battery.
It is absolutely forbidden to use battery that are not standard lead-acid
ones as indicated in the assembly instruction of the tension regulator.
!
ATTENTION:
to install different batteries may cause serious
injuries or death.
3.3 THOR 190 HF CLUTCH VERSION ENGINE STARTING
Fill in the fuel system as indicated in paragraph 3.1.
The clutch version engine is equipped with flash starter too; it makes
the starter easier because it has a spring inside that self-charges by
pulling the rope and once released, the energy accumulated makes the
engine starts. To start the engine with the flash starter we advise you
to pull the rope softly and not too fast to avoid damaging the spring.
!
ATTENTION:
keep the kill switch button in your hand during all
the stages and be ready to work it in case of any anomaly. If necessa-
ry, keep it pressed till the engine has completely stopped.
After starting the engine, we suggest testing the right functioning of
the kill switch button. After having checked it, start the engine again
