D. Assisting the chair downstairs
The EvacuRite is fitted with two extendable handles that can be used, if
desired, to assist descent. This can be beneficial if a heavier evacuee is
seated in the chair, when stairs are steeper than normal or if the landing
is smaller than normal.
1. To extend the front handles, lift up the black knob located near the handle
and pull out the rod by approximately 30cm, the rod will click in a secure
extended position - see Fig G.
Do not use these handles unless they are securely locked into place.
2. To retract side handles (if used), pull up the black knob on each side of
chair and slide closed the carrying handles until black knob clicks into the
closed position.
IMPORTANT: Before the evacuee is helped out of the chair, ensure that the
brakes are applied, handles retracted, foot rest is up and the chair is on
level ground.
