ENGINE - INSPECTION AND CHECK
1.
General Information.
A.
Introduction.
This Chapter provides the range of necessary inspections, checks and services, that shall be
performed during the engine operation period.
These procedures made as the inspection and maintenance practices are included in: Line
Maintenance; Periodic Maintenance; Calendar Maintenance; Special Maintenance in Peculiar
Cases and Storage Maintenance.
B.
Practical Indications.
(1)
The airfield maintenance should be performed in specially prepared places, far from
aircraft take-off and taxiing, to avoid a possibility of dust, sand and precipitation falling
into the engine interior.
(2)
The engine fuel system shall be always filled fully with the fuel or preservation oil.
W hen on the engine (or helicopter) some services require the fluid fulfilling the engine
fuel system to be drained (fuel or oil), then this condition must not take longer than 24
hours.
(3)
W hen same services have caused the air to be trapped in the fuel system, the venting
of it shall be done immediately.
(4)
W hen same operations have caused the air to be trapped in the oil system, then the
cold motoring shall be done.
(5)
The engine adjustment points are lead-sealed.
The adjustment points, which may be used during the engine operation to adjust the
engine parameters, are white color, another adjustment points, for which the access is
prohibited, are secured with the red color seals.
The engine operation with damaged safety wires or damaged (removed) seals of the
adjustment points is prohibited.
Any fact of seal replacement because of the adjustment performed or after accidental
former seal damage shall be recorded in the engine logbook.
(6)
In case the outside engine parts have been contaminated with oil (particularly the
lacquer and rubber surfaces, or the electric lines), the oil shall be removed as soon as
possible.
(7)
W hen the helicopter is parked, the appropriate blanks and covers on the engine inlets,
outlet ducts and engine bleed air valves outlets shall be placed.
