3 Setting up your computer - 35
Connecting to a network
Your computer’s built-in network features make it easy for you to
connect your computer to the internet using a cable or a wireless
connection.
First though, in order to connect to the internet, you’ll need to sign up
for internet services from an Internet Service Provider (ISP) — usually
a phone or cable company — that will have to go to your home or
office to set up internet service. The ISP will install a small box, a
router or mode, that will allow you to connect to the internet.
Connecting to a wired network
Use a network cable (RJ45) to connect your computer to a router or a
local area network (LAN).
1. Plug the network cable into the Ethernet port on the computer.
2. Plug the other end of the network cable to your LAN.
Note
Consult your network administrator for information on how to set up your
internet connection.
