ROTALIGN 01.2000
Batteries and power supply
ROTALIGN offers you four different possibilities for power supply to
the computer, which in turn powers the measurement receiver:
1.
Six standard "C"-size (IEC LR 14) alkali-mangan batteries is the
standard option as the main battery supply, accessed via the
upper left panel of the computer housing. These typically run the
system for 50 hours*.
2.
Six "C"-size NiCad rechargeable batteries can be alternatively
used. These typically run the system for 25 hours*.
Optional:
3.
A rechargeable lead-acid battery as main battery can alternative-
ly be fitted instead of the six batteries. This typically runs the
system for 9 hours*. See page 6-17.
4. The AC power supply can be used to connect the computer to
mains voltage for operation or to charge the lead-acid battery or
external receiver batteries. See page 6-17.
The ALI 3.576 charger can be used to charge either one ROTALIGN
computer or two external receiver batteries, but not the computer
and one battery simultaneously!
*Note, these battery times assume that the batteries are originally
new or fully loaded and are based on an operating cycle of 25%
measurement, 25% computation and 50% "sleep" mode.
ROTALIGN intrinsically safe version
The ROTALIGN package is available in an intrinsically safe version
ALI 3.500Ex (with all electrical components also suffixed by "Ex"). In
this case use only alkali-mangan batteries or the rechargeable
battery, ALI 3.572 (page 6-17).
DO NOT USE lithium batteries or nickel-cadmium rechargeable
batteries as AUXILIARY batteries for intrinsically safe versions of
the computer or laser.
MAIN Battery: six "C" cells
The standard power option is six "C"-size (IEC LR 14) alkali-mangan
batteries inserted into the computer battery compartment (see
picture below). Access is via the upper left panel of the computer,
opened with a 2.5 mm Allen key (supplied). Depending upon the
batteries used and the individual computer/receiver usage pattern,
one set of alkaline cells typically provides 50 hours of operation.
A set of NiCad (rechargeable) cells can alternatively be used, but
beware that their voltage drops off quite abruptly when their charge
is depleted, giving little or no "battery low" warning in advance. They
have a typical operating duration of 25 hours. They cannot be
recharged from within the ROTALIGN computer and must be
removed and recharged with your own charging unit.
