Coupling type
Before entering the dimensions, select the coupling type. This can be
selected from either the Dimensions screen with the OPTION and
CPLG TYPE softkeys (page 4-16), or from the Menu.
Selecting a coupling type allows the program to calculate and display
the alignment conditions appropriate to your machine. Shown below
is the Coupling Type screen:
SHORT FLEX is for most common types of "compact" flexible
coupling, e.g. chain, bellows, diaphragm, elastomeric, gear, spring,
grid or pin types.
SINGLE PLANE is for simple nonflexible couplings which are usually
just two flanges bolted together. Note: these should be loosened
slightly during alignment so that one machine does not influence the
other.
SPACER SHAFT is a coupling with two bending planes and a spacer.
Note, the length of the spacer must be entered when entering
machine dimensions.
Select the appropriate coupling type with the softkeys.
Sign convention
Vertical
Offset is positive when the coupling plane center of the right
machine lies above the shaft line of the left machine.
Offset A is the distance from the right coupling half to the shaft
line of the left machine.
Offset B is the distance from the left coupling half to the shaft line
of the right machine.
Angularity is positive when the coupling opens toward the top.
Horizontal
Same as vertical when viewing the computer screen with the
stationary machine on the left and the movable machine on the
right.
