Deactivating stray measurements
If a point on the target display seems somewhat astray, it can be
deactivated and remeasured. The first measurement points taken in
a given measurement are often victims of "stiction"
—
resulting from
the initial force necessary to overcome static friction. Particularly
noticeable in the continuous sweep mode, the force jars the shaft,
resulting in inaccurate measurement values. Use the following
procedure to deactivate these points:
1) After 2 or more measurement points have been taken, the arrow
softkey, shown left, appears. Once this appears, points may be
activated (or deactivated).
2) Use the ARROW softkey to highlight the rogue point with a
cross;
3) Press the "
–
" key. The point will be deactivated and displayed as
a small circle. The status line and "clock" in the top right corner
will also be updated to show which points are still valid.
4) The deactivated points can be remeasured. Note, however, that
the circles representing the deactivated points remain on the
screen.
5) Restore deactivated points by pressing the "
–
" key again. If more
than one point is active for a given measurement, they will be
averaged.
